HISTORY
The Index was a list of books prohibited by the Catholic Church. Such enlightened minds as Kepler and Galileo were on it. In case of Galileo, the pardon came right away, in the 90s. After all, no-one manages to be that stupid for more than four centuries, which already is a consolation. Nowadays the crowds have another kind of Index in their own way, which is guided by the diminutive vision of reality and the need for standardization, be it in Art or in Science. And woe to those who dare to wake the crowd up from this lethargy. Therefore, saying that you are not living and thinking because of the crowd is the reason for being proud of yourself. Screw the crowd! The best of the human being has always been on the INDEX. Index, a Brazilian prog rock band, was formed in 1988 by musicians Jones Junior and Otaviano Kury and its debut album was strongly influenced by the symphonic groups of the 70’s, basically combining baroque and renaissance music with rock and jazz. The debut album featured six compositions, most of them inherited from another important Brazilian prog rock band – Quaterna Requiem of which Jones was a member and founder. The independently released debut album was enthusiastically received in several countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Belgian, Holland, Japan, Korea, Argentina, United States, Canada, and Mexico. In 2000, after several important shows and festivals, Index went through profound changes which led to Ronaldo Schenato’s (bass) and Leonardo Reis’ (drums) definitely joining the band. The band’s new line-up recorded the second album “LIBER SECUNDUS” between October-November 2010 which later was released by Rock Symphony (Brazil) and Musea (France) in December that same year. Back on the road, with the new line-up and having recovered once and for all its original project which was absolutely instrumental, Index performed on several shows in 2002 such as Passo Fundo Art Rock and Santa Maria Festival in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and finished the year with its most acclaimed performance at the RARF - Rio Art Rock Festival, the biggest festival of this kind in South America, in Rio de Janeiro in November, 2002. This show solidified the name of the band on the Brazilian progressive rock scene and the effect of the performance was so spectacular that Index went beyond borders in 2003, taking its music to one of the most important progressive rock festivals in the world – Bajaprog in Mexico. Once again, Index was received with euphoria by the public and found a definitive place on the world prog rock scene. From the end of 2003 on, Index started working on material that later would become the third and the best album of the band. In IDENTITY recorded in the second half of 2004, the band paid attention to each and every detail so that the album could be true to its concept. In 8 tracks of IDENTITY recorded one after another in a single project, Index showed its instrumental progressive rock devoted to the best the music can give us. To crown the post-Identity phase, Index released a DVD of the show that had taken place at the São Carlos Theater (Caxias do Sul/Rio Grande do Sul) in September, 2005, presenting the material from the band’s entire career. The DVD was launched by Masque Records (São Paulo) in 2008 and is available for sale at indexband@yahoo.com. After a period of low productivity, the band resumed work with a view to putting into practice new projects that range from including a song written by the band itself in the “Decameron – Ten Days in 100 Novellas” project to recording material for the next CD, in addition to live performances at theaters and pubs in the area. | ||||||||
